School History

In the late 1970's a move began within the community of Westmoreland, Tennessee to build a new high school which could house grades 9-12.  The move began as a result of extremely crowded conditions.  The high school grades 7-12.  The goal was to build a new campus for the high school housing grades 9-12, while renovating the old high school building for use as a middle school housing grades 6-8.  This goal was achieved in 1988 with the beginning of the new school year.  The educational facility currently houses 43 classrooms, a library media center, two school office suites, an auditorium, two multi-purpose gymnasiums, cafeteria, three computer labs, guidance office, conference room, two teacher work areas/lounges, and many custodial and storage areas.  There is sufficient parking around each entrance of the north and south wing buildings.  The middle school shares the football field with high school, but maintains its own field house and weight room.  Crowding at the elementary school led to the grade configuration at Westmoreland Middle School to include grades 5-8 beginning in 2005-06 through 2008-09 school year.  Fifth grade returned to Westmoreland Elementary School when a new elementary school was completed in the summer of 2010.  Currently, Westmoreland Middle School serves grades 6-8.
