Welcome to the

Westmoreland Middle School Library

Students and parents,

Welcome back to another great school year! We look forward to your many visits to the library during 2016-2017.

The WMS library serves 385 students in grades 6-8. The primary mission of the library is to support the curriculum of the school. The library contains approximately 8,000 age-appropriate items to fulfill this mission. Regular weeding and collection development keeps the collection moderately up-to-date and relevant.

The library has a mostly flexible schedule. In addition to being used by classes for research projects and other activities, reading classes visit the library every two weeks. Students may check in and out books during these visits. Students may also stop by the library during other times of the day, such as before school, lunch, between classes and after school.

Appreciation of reading is promoted through ongoing events sponsored by the library. Such events include book fairs, Reading Rocks (our school-wide reading incentive program), the Nashville Sounds Reading Club program, and Battle of the Books.

*Students may have two books checked out at any one time.

*Books are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed for an additional two weeks.

*There is a ten-cents-per-day fine for overdue books, though a 3-day grace period is given in which students may return an overdue book without penalty.

*Students may not check out items if they have an overdue book and/or owe a fine in excess of $1.00, though in-house use of materials is still allowed.
